Is your spouse impassioned by politics? My wife asked me whom I intended to vote for. My hope was to deploy slight of hand, emitting words faster than the ear can hear, invoking the impression of coherency, but rapidly, thought upon thought, so as to approximate meaningfulness, but not quite achieve it. Such is the politician’s craft, enabling the exit statement, “I didn’t say that.” It was going well, that is, until she told me to cut the bull. I then deferred to history. History that has upheld western civilization and sustained the very principles of democracy. I told her I must vote my conscience. That’s when she walloped me a good one.
