I asked my wife how many books she reads. The report said average readers finish twelve books per year. I should emphasized ‘readers’ because the average person reads three or less. I didn’t say anything about voracious readers who burn through fifty books; superreaders over eighty. It was when I complained that too many of my books are over five hundred pages, holding back my reader status, that she looked at me askew. Then she insisted I join Readers Anonymous.
