Gut Feeling

I said it wrong.
“Jeff! That was over ten years ago,” she said, correcting me.
“You know what I meant. Why do you correct me?” I asked.
“Do you write that way too? Saying one thing and meaning another?” she asked.
“Sometimes,” I said.
“How do know that your readers know what you mean?” she asked.
“It has to feel right.”
